Duties:

Responsible for cleanliness and upkeep of VIU Student Residence nine three-story buildings (housing approximately 500 students), office, reception, and activity centre. This includes regular cleaning and maintenance of common spaces between September to March of each year, with responsibility to deep clean and prepare rooms for student internal transfers, and preparing approximately 200 of the rooms for hotel guests between April and September of each year.

Organize, assign, supervise and participate in routine cleaning and maintenance tasks.
Provide courteous professional customer service to students and guests on a year round
basis. Deep cleaning of student rooms in preparation for student transfers, student intake and hotel guests. Maintain cleanliness of buildings occupied by summer students and hotel guests including: Kitchens, common rooms, stairs, landings, garbage removal.
Report maintenance issues requiring outside contractors. Maintain stock in janitor rooms.

Ensure all paperwork done/tracked and submitted on time.
Complete room inspections and report rooms for carpet cleaning, damage deposits and repairs as necessary. Complete and return cleaning forms to Manager Student Residence, along with the ongoing changeover of hotel guests. Monitor and maintain stock of cleaning supplies, cleaning equipment, supplies for repairs, fixtures, and hotel items. Use all cleaning materials and supplies in a safe manner consistent with WHMIS.

Required Qualifications:

Minimum Grade 12.
Basic knowledge of maintenance, cleaning safety and cleaning products or tool use.
Some experience in cleaning any combination of homes, commercial, industrial, hotel or dormitory.
Excellent organizational skills and basic computer skills.
Ability to troubleshoot maintenance requests and repairs.
Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines while maintaining quality standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

Level 5 Driver's License.
