Position Description

The Department of Clinical Neurosciences, in partnership with the Hotchkiss Brain Institute, at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary invite applications for a full-time academic position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor to serve as the Clinical Leader of the Movement Disorders Program.

Qualifications include an MD or MD/PhD, specialist certificate in Neurology, fellowship in Movement Disorders, along with independent practice in Movement Disorders clinical care, and eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta. Eligible applicants must have a track record in leading clinical or bench research, with demonstrated scholarship in the form of more than 50 peer-reviewed publications.

Applicants at the Associate Professor level must present evidence of a strong publication record, evidence of successful teaching and supervision of graduate trainees and/or fellows, and evidence of established academic engagement in professional and other communities included invited presentations and plenary talks at international conferences.

Applicants at the Professor level must provide evidence of an outstanding academic publication record, outstanding teaching and supervision record, and evidence of academic service and/or leadership. The ability to establish an independent research program as demonstrated by a portfolio of scholarly work and a successful record of grant support is desired, but not necessary.

The successful candidate will join the Section of Neurology and salary support will be through an Alternative Relationship Plan in Neurology supported by Alberta Health, Alberta Health Services and the Cumming School of Medicine Academic Alternative Relationship Plan.

While duties include clinical service and providing clinical leadership to the Movement Disorders program, substantial time will be protected for research if required. Both clinical research and laboratory-based scientists will be considered for the position. Applicants with a successful long-standing track–record in research are particularly encouraged to apply and will be provided with an attractive start-up support and appropriate laboratory space.

Excellent facilities for clinical and basic neuroscience research, and state-of-the-art clinical and research infrastructure, provide an environment conducive to leading-edge patient care and research. The MD Program in Calgary provides care to the 1.8 million residents of Southern Alberta and is involved in funded research at the Hotchkiss Brain Institute (see supplemental information under Recruitment at http://www.ucalgary.ca/dcns/)
