Position Description
The Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary is seeking qualified candidates to fill a tenured position in Entrepreneurship and Innovation at theFull Professor/Chair level. Exceptional candidates at the Associate Professor level may also be considered for either a tenured or tenure-track appointment. This incumbent will provide scholarly leadership for the newly established Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. This is a new role developed in support of the business school’s committed dedication to entrepreneurship and its business community. The ideal candidate is passionate about building a centre of excellence and in leading a movement in advancing entrepreneurship. This role will leverage the school’s support from the business community and its openness and desire for innovative research.
The Haskayne School of Business is dedicated to entrepreneurial thinking, as evidenced by their newly established Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship. The Centre will shape a new generation of entrepreneurs who will support Calgary’s sustained growth and prosperity. The Centre will offer research and teaching programs across the core curriculum focused on entrepreneurship and innovation, and provide support for professional networks involving students and new entrepreneurs.
In addition to being an academic role model, the successful candidate will have the ability and desire to mentor junior faculty in setting the Centre’s research agenda and to act as a thought leader for developing world-class research that is both rigorous and relevant to business.
We are seeking candidates who are aligned with the business school’s vision to be an internationally recognized centre of excellence for business education, research, and community outreach, with a special emphasis on the distinct elements that define Calgary and Alberta: energy, entrepreneurship, and ethical leadership. The successful incumbent will contribute substantial value to the four keystone areas of focus:

The Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship
The Centre was created in 2013 thanks to a $5 million lead donation by the Hunter family and nearly $3 million in additional support from Calgary Entrepreneurs Henuset, Robson, Locke and Brown. The centre’s vision is to promote entrepreneurial thinking across all organizations. It is leading curriculum development to be taught across the core business undergraduate and graduate program, as well as across faculties across campus. The centre will be the hub of entrepreneurship both on campus and throughout the business community through various innovative programs, such as incubators and competitions.

The Person
We welcome candidates who are passionate and committed to entrepreneurship research and teaching, are keen to collaborate with faculty from other areas within the School and disciplines, across campus, are intellectually curious, have a strong interest in curriculum innovation, can integrate the connection between entrepreneurship and other management disciplines, and provide a global perspective in their teaching and research. The ideal candidate will not only have the proven ability to build something from the ground up, but will bring the natural inclination to share and support those around him/her in doing so.
Priority will be given to those candidates who also have experience either working in entrepreneurial businesses (starting, owning or running a venture; corporate venturing; social venturing; family business) or working with entrepreneurs (private equity, banking, policy, economic development).
Candidates must possess a Ph.D., ideally in Business or Management with a focus on entrepreneurship (or related discipline), show evidence of success in teaching entrepreneurship, and have an active research and publication track record primarily in entrepreneurship.
