  • 20% academic/administration which includes non-clinical time spent with residents and medical students for teaching, curriculum work, mentorship, assessment, research and other duties as assigned in the undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum.
The College of Medicine and the Department of Academic Family Medicine:
As the only medical school in Saskatchewan, the College of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan is mandated to serve the people of the province by producing outstanding clinical practitioners, generating new knowledge and facilitating improved patient outcomes. As a provincial resource, it is critical for the College of Medicine to have a well-established provincial presence. A distributed medical education model enables the college to achieve such a presence, and the Department of Academic Family Medicine plays an integral role.

Academic Family Medicine has faculty who teach in educational sites across the province including Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert, La Ronge, Swift Current, North Battleford, and Moose Jaw. The Family Medicine Residency Training Program educates approximately 100 residents/year, with the goal to graduate family physicians able to practice high-quality, comprehensive, continuing care as a Family Medicine specialist. Learners are exposed to a full-service Family Medicine practice and have opportunities to train in many of our distributed medical education training sites. The Department also provides dynamic undergraduate Family Medicine educational experiences and encourages medical students to consider a career path in Family Medicine.

Departmental faculty hold leadership roles in undergraduate and postgraduate education within the College of Medicine, the Saskatoon and Regina Health Regions, Primary Health, and Aboriginal Health.
Physicians in the Department enjoy the benefits of a dynamic interdisciplinary team environment to support their clinical, teaching and scholarly activities. Physicians and residents in all locations participate in the provision of a broad range of care including adult medicine, obstetrics, pediatrics and in-hospital/nursing home care. Our social accountability mandate is to train family physicians to care for the health needs of the underserved rural, remote and urban populations of Saskatchewan.

Qualifications and Experience:
The successful contractors will be full-service, experienced family physicians who are willing to share their knowledge and expertise with learners. Experience with an electronic medical record is required and preference will be given to qualified family physicians with CCFP and a Masters or Ph.D. in medical education and/or previous teaching experience. Preference will also be given to Family Physicians with privileges in intrapartum obstetrics with a willingness to participate in obstetrical call.
