Assistant Professor
The Department of English in the College of Arts & Science, University of Saskatchewan, invites applications for a tenure-track position in Transnational, Diasporic, and Decolonizing/Postcolonial Literatures, at the Assistant Professor level, to begin July 1, 2016. We particularly welcome candidates with qualifications in these areas who also have demonstrated scholarly and teaching interests in Indigenous/Aboriginal Literatures and Storytelling (in International or North American contexts) and/or in Digital Studies related to the primary field of expertise.
The successful candidate will be productively engaged in ongoing research focusing on transnational, diasporic, and/or decolonizing literatures and their social, cultural, and political contexts, and will have a record of research success and a well-developed research project. The candidate will teach classes in Transnational Literatures, Decolonizing Literatures, and Rereading Colonialism, as well as first-year classes such as Reading Culture, and may also contribute to teaching Indigenous literatures and storytelling in Canada and/or Digital Culture and New Media. Within the first two years of appointment, the successful candidate will be offered the opportunity to lead an honours or graduate seminar, supervise graduate candidates, assist with graduate examinations, and participate in the administrative work of the Department.
A PhD is required, as is demonstrated ability in teaching, research, and publication. In accordance with the Department’s commitment to increasing Aboriginal participation in all aspects and levels of its activities, qualified Aboriginal applicants are particularly encouraged to apply.
Located in the Division of Humanities & Fine Arts in the College of Arts and Science, the Department of English has 24 permanent faculty. The department provides undergraduate and graduate education in a variety of subject areas, with areas of concentration for graduate studies in Indigenous Literatures, Cultural Studies, Digital Studies, Canadian Literature, and Modernist Studies. English faculty collaborate with and teach in programs in Women’s and Gender Studies, Digital Culture and New Media, the MFA in Writing, and the Department of Drama. Salary Bands (July 1, 2016– June 30, 2017):
Assistant Professor $93,293 (floor) to $112,109 (ceiling)
