Position Description

The Department of Medical Genetics, Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary and the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute (ACHRI) invite applications for a NSERC Tier II Canada Research Chair (tenure-track) in Genomics research at the Assistant Professor level. This position represents a major investment in genomic research, and the successful applicant will join a program with a vision to develop an internationally recognized program in Child Health Genomics.

Qualifications include a PhD or MD, or equivalent. The preferred applicant will be specialized in wet or dry lab genomic technologies, with a vision to develop an independent research program focused primarily on regulatory genomics. The preferred applicant will have an emerging track record of successful research demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications, track record of funding commensurate with stage of career and maturity of their research plan. Either cellular or models systems may be used to support their research program. Expectations for the current position include the establishment of a vigorous, sustainable, externally-funded research program (for which 75% time will be protected), contributions to teaching and graduate student supervision.

The successful candidate will occupy laboratory space in a multidisciplinary environment including geneticists, bioinformaticians, and models systems researchers studying organ development, cellular fate determination and genetic disease among other interests. The Department, Institute and School are also home to a number of excellent core research facilities, including leading edge next generation sequencing, bioinformatics, microscopy, proteomics and nucleic acid infrastructure.  Please visit our websites at http://www.ucalgary.ca/medicalgenetics.ca and http://www.ucalgary.ca/research4kids for more information.
