Position Description

The Werklund School of Education, University of Calgary, invites applications for a 3-year limited term academic position (with the possibility of renewal) at the rank of Instructor, requiring professional practice in the area of community engagement with K-12 institutions. Key elements of the position include on-campus and online teaching in the undergraduate and/or graduate programs, and collaborating with colleagues in programme development, support and implementation. The appointment will commence July 2016 or at a mutually agreeable date.

Reporting to the Dean, the successful applicant must have completed a doctoral programme in education; have university graduate level teaching experience in an online environment; and, have expertise and experience in K-12 teaching, school leadership, and school jurisdiction leadership in Alberta.

Applicants are invited to submit a curriculum vitae; a statement outlining engagement in research and professional learning in Alberta; research, post-secondary teaching and leadership experience; evidence of collaboration; a brief description of present and aspiring contributions to the field; reprints of two (2) representative academic publications; and, the names of and contact information for three referees. 

For the first three years, the workload assignment is expected to include providing academic leadership to ensure the effective coordination and delivery of professional graduate programs within Graduate Programs in Education (GPE) with primary responsibility for the following:

  • Liaising with stakeholder groups in the community to determine their educational needs;
  • Assuming the lead role for the EdD, MEd and MC programs;
  • Liaising with the Educational Studies Area (EDSA) chairs and members to facilitate the creation and establishment of specific topic cohort areas to meet the professional community’s needs including new program ideas, demonstrated needs in our communities, and new ideas from our communities;
  • Liaising with the Associate Dean Graduate Programs on administrative program matters and to ensure robust processes and procedures in place for blended / online Professional Programs;
  • Providing academic support to students in the programs, including referral of student administrative matters to the Graduate Program Directors or Administrators; and,
  • Establishing productive collaborations with the educational and psychological communities.
