Human Resources Advisor (PER2D)
Position Summary: 
The Faculty of Medicine is embarking on an innovative administrative initiative that will realign its Financial and Human Resources (HR) into Administrative Excellence Centres (AEC). The key mission of the AEC is to raise the bar of excellence in how our clients (academic and administrative) are supported in the fields of human resources, finance and general management. Under the leadership of the Associate Director of Administration, the new model will be comprised of Financial and HR specialists who will be responsible for the planning and implementation of related policies and procedures for its departments. Reporting to the Associate Director of Administration, the Human Resources Advisor will be responsible for effective HR management for academic and Administrative and Support employees within the assigned group of departments. Areas of responsibility include activities related to academic recruitment, promotions and tenure, employee and labour relations, staffing, compensation, organizational design and benefits administration.
Primary Responsibilities: 
  • Provide guidance to faculty/department/unit members with respect to the day-to-day management of human resources, including the handling of grievances and disputes, identification of training needs and development/ organization of training sessions.
  • Analyze current and potential problems and recommend alternatives.
  • Exercise leadership in directing and influencing faculty/department/unit members in the attainment of established goals and objectives and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Participate in the development of University personnel policies and procedures and their dissemination throughout the faculty/department/unit.
  • Undertake job audits, conduct exit interviews and investigate reasons for staff turnover.
  • Oversee recruitment activities and benefits administration for the faculty/department/unit.
Minimum Education & Experience: 

Undergraduate degree

Three (3) years' related experience

Other Qualifying Skills And/Or Abilities: 
Proven experience dealing with human resources (including academic human resources) related issues in the following domains: academic recruitment, academic promotions and tenure, academic authorized leaves, employee and labour relations, compensation, organizational development, benefits administration, recruitment and selection. Demonstrated experience working with the Administrative and Support collective agreement and University policies and procedures including academic policies and procedures. Proven experience working within an educational, medical and research environment, including a sound understanding of M.D. recruitment in the teaching hospital network. Must be accustomed to working within an educational, medical and research environment in order to understand and represent the unique issues of our client base. Demonstrated creativity in resolving problems and conflict management. Ability to influence decisions, make and find solutions to complex problems. Ability to maintain composure under pressure and ability to meet deadlines. Proven success in facilitating and maintaining strong, consistent, and positive communications. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills in both English and French. Proven team-player with the ability to train and motivate staff. Demonstrated ability to work in a computerized environment using word-processing, databases, spreadsheets and presentation software, Banner (HRIS). CRHA designation is preferred.
